01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

With its deeply browned exterior and creamy, luscious core, the house-made Basque cheesecake is the natural starting point at CAFE BEVANDARIA, tucked down a side street in Taito Ward's Negishi neighborhood. What sets the shop apart is its approach to condiments. A pinch of classic salt sharpens the cheesecake's inherent sweetness, while a drizzle of olive oil adds fresh, fruity body to its smooth texture. Black pepper tightens the profile, and honey rounds it out with gentle sweetness, letting you explore varied flavour contrasts across a single plate.

Coffee pairings are considered just as carefully. House blends using specialty-grade beans are available across 5 distinct roast levels, from light to dark. That flexibility lets you balance rich body against gentle acidity according to your mood or chosen cheesecake topping. The beverage list extends further to light-roast single origins, medium-roast straight coffees, and espresso drinks such as caffe shakerato and cafe lattes.

Beyond coffee, the drinks menu is remarkably varied. Black teas include Darjeeling, Uva, and Assam, alongside made-to-order fresh-squeezed lemon squash and an orange lemonade crafted from a simmered house citrus syrup. As evening sets in, cocktails like Irish coffee and espresso martinis make their appearance, easily taking the room from an afternoon cafe to a casual bar setting.

Upstairs from the ground-floor counter on the 2nd floor, window-facing seats look out on the streetscape alongside bookshelves dedicated to coffee culture, creating a calm, unhurried rhythm. Opening from 8:00 in the morning, it is a convenient stop for a quiet moment before exploring the area, or simply whenever you need to recharge over a well-made cup.
